The Town Lake (TX) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated recognized American Heart Month in February by raising awareness about cardiovascular disease and encouraging members to prioritize heart health. Members wore red at their February meeting in support of the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative, which promotes education, advocacy, and mutual support among women.
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading health threat to women, with nearly 45% of women ages 20 and older living with some form of the condition. The impact is even greater for Black women, who experience the highest burden, including higher rates of hypertension and increased risk of heart disease.
As part of one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations, the Town Lake (TX) Chapter is committed to improving the health and well-being of the Austin community. Through its Health & Human Services Facet, the chapter provides programs and resources that support Black family wellness and promote healthier lifestyles.
Under the leadership of President Dr. Wanda L. Nelson, the chapter continues its mission of service and community transformation.
