Town Lake (TX) Chapter Members attend The Nutcracker with Mentees

The Town Lake (TX) Chapter's Services to Youth (STY) Facet hosted dinner and a trip to the Nutcracker at the Long Center for the Performing Arts for twenty-two girls from the Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy. It was the first opportunity for the girls to visit the Long Center for the Performing Arts and witness live performances from both Ballet Austin and the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Daina Ramey Berry – 2018 Robert W. Hamilton Book Author Award Recipient

Congratulations to Town Lake (TX) Chapter member Dr. Daina Ramey Berry, who was honored with the 2018 Robert W. Hamilton Book Author Award from the University of Texas for her book The Price for Their Pound of Flesh: The Value of the Enslaved from Womb to Grave in the Building of a Nation. The Hamilton Book Award is UT’s most prestigious prize, honoring faculty who have published book-length contributions in their fields. Dr. Berry is a professor of History and African and African Diaspora Studies, and Oliver H. Town Lake (TX) Chapter members enjoying a day of sisterhood and service on Saturday, September 15, 2018, as they prepared a hot meal for families residing in the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas (RMHC).  The Town Lake (TX) Chapter has a long-standing relationship with RMHC and prepares meals monthly. This initiative is led by Cynthia Watkins Clanton.

THINGS I’VE LEARNED: SIMONE TALMA FLOWERS

THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF INTERFAITH ACTION OF CENTRAL TEXAS HAS BIG IDEAS ABOUT FAITH IN THE METRO AREA.   Raised in Trinidad, a haven of ethnic and religious diversity, Simone Talma Flowers has always felt most at home around a broad mix of people. She found her calling as the executive director of Interfaith Action of Central Texas (iACT), which cultivates peace and respect through interfaith dialogue, service, and celebration.
