Congratulations to Town Lake (TX) Chapter member Dr. Daina Ramey Berry, who was honored with the 2018 Robert W. Hamilton Book Author Award from the University of Texas for her book The Price for Their Pound of Flesh: The Value of the Enslaved from Womb to Grave in the Building of a Nation. The Hamilton Book Award is UT’s most prestigious prize, honoring faculty who have published book-length contributions in their fields. Dr. Berry is a professor of History and African and African Diaspora Studies, and Oliver H. Radkey Regents Professorship in History. She is a Fellow of the Walter Prescott Webb Chair in History, and a Fellow of George W. Littlefield Professorship in American History. The Price for Their Pound of Flesh also won the Phillis Wheatley Award, and the Best Book Prize from the Society of Historians of Early American Republic.
